Eleanor Passano

Eleanor Passano's An Index to the Sources Records of Maryland: Genealogical, Biographical, Historical was first published in 1940 and has been reprinted several times since by the Genealogical Publishing Company. It indexes family names found in many sources available either at the Maryland Historical Society in Baltimore, the Daughters of the American Revolution Library in Washington, and other repositories. It also indexes names found in multiple published sources.

Other sections deal with state and county records available at the time. References for history, biography, travel, magazines, fiction, church records, tombstones, census lists, military records, and research in other states are also included.

Mary K. Meyer

Mary Keysor Meyer, for many years the Genealogical Reference Librarian at the Maryland Historical Society, compiled many books, and had the vision to start many projects whose ultimate goal was to make research easier for the genealogist. The Genealogical Council of Maryland, the Provincial Families of Maryland, and the statewide inventories of church records, bible records, and cemeteries, were all originally her idea.

In 1972, she published her first edition of Genealogical Research in Maryland: A Guide. Its fourth edition appeared in 1992 and was published by the Maryland Historical Society. After describing various libraries, archives, and repositories, she discusses vital, census, church, miltary, tax and land records. She includes a chapter on special finding aids, as well as material on genealogical and historical societies, and other research centers in Maryland. She closes her Guide with a 63 page bibliography of Maryland sources.
