Equity Records

Introduction

Equity records include divorces, foreclosures, name changes, adoptions, and more. All of these cases are organized by case number, so click on the county to find indexes to case numbers first. Indexes are a listing by the last name of the person who filed the case.

If you are searching for an adoption, then this research guide will help you find a case number, but please see our adoption records guide for information on legal restrictions.

If the indexes below do not go as recent as what you need, then search the Maryland Judiciary Case Search. Copies of records are available to order online. If you have questions, then please email us at msa.helpdesk@maryland.gov.

Already have a case number?

You can go straight to the records for your county listed below and skip the index.

Many modern equity and divorce case files are located offsite. If you need to view or get a copy of a  record, please contact us.

Equity records in the possession of the Archives vary considerably by date depending on the jurisdiction. In order to locate a divorce file it is necessary to know:

  • the county that granted the divorce
  • case number (can be found in indexes)
  • names of the parties
  • the approximate date

What years do we have equity records?

Years vary depending on the county, so please use this guide to help determine if we have the record you need.
