Series Description
Declarations of Intention were used by would-be citizens to renounce allegiance to foreign governments and to declare the intention of becoming a United States citizen. They usually preceded other documents by at least two years, and may not have been required if a citizen had received an honorable discharge from the military or entered the country as a minor. Declarations of Intention include the following information: name, age, occupation, physical description, place of birth, where now living, spouse (if applicable), renunciation of former citizenship, place and date of arrival in USA (later records include mode of transportation). Each book contains an index.
