Series Description
Executive records pertaining to the Bank Stock Case. Consists of
letters, reports, and opinions. Documents for 1783-1787 include
correspondence between William Pinkney and James Monroe. Later
documents (1801-1805) pertain to Samuel Chase's tenure as
Maryland's official representative in England. Also contains
correspondence from John Adams. Items dated 1783-1787 are
photostatic copies. Arranged chronologically. Following the
Revolution, the Bank Stock Case was a legal battle between the
State of Maryland and several London bank trustees over the
sinking fund in the Bank of England that supported Maryland's
paper currency. After years of legal and diplomatic efforts, the
case was resolved in 1804. Also available on microfilm for
