This collection comprises of the Federal Works Progress Administration, Historical Records Survey of churches and religious institutions for Maryland. The inventories in this collection were compiled between 1936 and 1943 and list by county every known church in the state at the time of the survey. The inventories, contained in it, provide information about the church and its records as identified by Historical Records Survey workers and do not contain any church records. The level of detail varies, but may include information regarding church history, denomination, diocese or circuit, minister, descriptions of the records, church and records location, and whether or not defunct.
