Survey record books bequeathed to St. Mary's county under the will of Benjamin Tippett, county surveyor from 1850 to 1853. The two books contain descriptions and plats of tracts of land and comments on surveying techniques and mathematical problems. The earlier volume also includes remarks on land commissions and a diary with entries concerning births, marriages, deaths, politics, and crimes. The later record contains an account of "Incidents in the Life of Major J.F." The original is maintained at the Courthouse with images available on line at the Maryland State Archives derived from microfilm. Indexes to the names of persons and tracts involved in the surveys appear at the front of each record.
