Series Information
ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY
COURT
(Land Commissions)
1716-1829
C94
Series Description
Record of proceedings of commissioners appointed by the court to
perpetuate or restore land boundaries, 1716-1794, and to divide
or sell inherited land, 1791-1829. Land boundary documents
usually consist of petitions, court orders, oaths of
commissioners, depositions, and commission reports, but only a
few surveys and plats. Estate proceedings contain petitions,
court orders, oaths of commissioners, commission reports, and
some surveys and plats. The earliest records, 1716-1718, are
available on film in series CM1228.
The pages from two books, C94-3 and C94-4, that contain plats are
included in (Plat References, AA, Index) in series S1551. An
index of names in C94-4, 1791-1805, appears in (Miscellaneous
Records, AA, Index) in series S1405 where the record is cited as
Guardians for Infants. This card index encompasses so many other
Anne Arundel County records that the extraction of names only for
the one volume of land commissions is not cost effective. Instead
the Archives will use index entries from series S1551 as the
beginning of an electronic database for access, but will rely
mainly on the records themselves in order to insure completeness.
