Series Information
FREDERICK COUNTY
LEVY COURT
(Road Book)
1819-1851
C872
Series Description
Abstracts of proceedings, concerning new, altered, or closed
roads, recorded by the levy court and its successor the board of
county commissioners, but handled by the county court, 1819-1851,
circuit court, 1851-1853, and after that the county
commissioners. The docket type entries are numbered in succession
beginning with one and arranged chronologically. They contain
brief descriptions of the roads, names of petitioners, court
orders, damage awards, and references to the full proceedings in
(Road Record) in series C871, C874, and C2308 that include the
only records of the surveys and plats.
C872 and C873 will be included in the plats project because they
serve as intermediary reference points between (Road
Descriptions) in series C867 and C858 and (Road Record) in series
C871, C874, and C2308. A researcher beginning with a road in the
first volume of (Road Descriptions) will find a county road
number that leads to an abstract in (Road Book) that in turn
provides the reference to (Road Record). In addition, for the
years covered by one volume, 1870-1892, the recorded proceedings,
if extant, remain in the county offices.
The Archives will create an electronic finding aid from the
records themselves.
