Series Information
BALTIMORE COUNTY
HIGHWAYS COMMISSION
(Utility Agreements)
1904-1914
C2883
Series Description
Applications, agreements, contracts, grants, licenses, bonds,
plans, and plats regarding the installation and construction of
water pipes, sewer pipes, telephone lines and poles, electric
lines and poles, gas lines, railway tracks and crossings, and
private roads. Many of the private roads were dedicated to public
use and accepted by the county as public facilities. The county
highways commission required the filing of these documents in
order to issue permits for utility work along, under, or over
public roads and streets. When the commission was abolished in
1914, the board of county commissioners assumed responsibility
for the activity. The books are composed of papers that are glued
or paper clipped to the pages, or filed loosely. Each volume is
indexed by the names of companies or places. Access available in
electronic form derived from the indexes and the records
themselves.
