BALTIMORE COUNTY
BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
(Road Proceedings)
1819-1829
C2878
Series Description
Transcripts of proceedings to open, alter, or close public roads,
open private roads, and construct bridges, as handled by the
board of county commissioners. Documents include petitions,
objections, court orders, commissioners returns, surveys and
plats, and damage awards to landowners. The first case was heard
by the county court and then filed with the board of county
commissioners at its conclusion in 1829. The records are arranged
chronologically by beginning date. The Baltimore County Levy
Court was given authority to handle road petitions by Ch. 152,
Acts of 1821, previously a function of the county court. In 1827
all duties and responsibilities of the levy court were
transferred to the newly created Baltimore County Board of County
Commissioners.
