Papers used in survey work done by the Bouldin family firm of surveyors in Baltimore City, that were deposited with the Superior Court. The surveyors included in succession Jehu Bouldin, Alexander J. Bouldin, and Augustus Bouldin. The collection contains preliminary surveys and plats, extracts of metes and bounds from other sources, field notes, copies of deeds and patents, and letters. Survey work came from individuals, court orders, and contracts with the municipal government, federal government, and railroads. Some documents pertain to land in surrounding counties and areas farther afield such as St. Mary's County and West Virginia. The papers were organized topically under such categories as a road, street, railroad, estate, individual, court case, park, or geographical area of the county or city. Then they were placed in envelopes and assigned numbers 1-200. Conservation work is needed to flatten the records and repair tears. Access available in electronic form, derived from the preliminary inventory of identifications on the envelopes, supplemented by the records themselves. A sampling of the categories reveals the diversity of survey - Baltimore Company lands, land of Edward Bowen Joice, estate of James Gittings, Mt. Royal papers, Boehm vs. Hayes, B & O Railroad, Philadelphia Road, Patapsco Neck, Western Maryland Railroad, Jones Falls for City Commissioners, Fort McHenry, West Virginia coal land, Point Lookout, and Frederick St. Docks.
