Survey, easement, and subdivision plats recorded in land record books. The Land Office filmed most of the plats, now found in series CM1429 and CM1197, where the records are referenced erroneously as land commission books. After 1721 the Somerset County clerk did in fact transcribe some land commission proceedings, including plats, in the land records along with the usual deeds and mortgages. Also recorded there were proceedings, with plats, concerning private and public roads, streets, public wharves and landings, and lighthouses. The original volumes of (Land Records) through 1910 are included in series C1778 and C1779 and on film to the present in series CM963 and CM940. Access is available through an electronic finding aid derived from (Plats on Microfilm, SO, Index) in series S1545 and (Plat References, SO, Index), supplemented by the records themselves. In 1975 eighteen plats, dating between 1818 and 1903, were removed from land record books and placed in volume 10 of (Plat Book) in series C2408. Only one of these documents is included in (Plat Book, Index) in C2405, and none were given plat book cross references in the land records. These eighteen plats will remain in series C2409 and C2410, despite the refiling in another set of records. Later plats and others dating from 1941 can be found in series C2408 and (Subdivision Plats, SO) in series S1253.
