Series Information
TALBOT COUNTY
CIRCUIT COURT
(Land Commissions)
1852-1882
C2396
Series Description
Record of proceedings of commissioners appointed by the court to
perpetuate or restore land boundaries, 1702-1841, and to divide
or sell inherited land, 1802-1882. Land boundary documents
consist of petitions, court orders, oaths of commissioners,
depositions, commission reports, and some surveys and plats.
Estate proceedings contain petitions, court orders, oaths of
commissioners, commission reports, and usually surveys and plats.
Other cases concern the commitment of insane paupers to
hospitals, 1859-1867, and condemnation of land for a school,
1872. The records are arranged chronologically by recording
date. Also available on film in series CM 925 and CM1428. The
earliest record, 1702-1706, consisting of only five pages,
contains plats. During the next one hundred years no such plats
were recorded. They become more frequent as estate cases become
more numerous. Physical attributes of the paper in two volumes
will affect adversely the quality of scanned images. The book for
1723-1736 contains some pages with missing edges, and the one for
1761-1782 has many pages with discolored, brown edges.
Access available in electronic form derived from (Plats on
Microfilm, TA) in series S1546, supplemented by the records
themselves. Unrecorded proceedings may be found in (Land
Commission Papers) in series C2397 and C2398.
