The county copies of survey, road, subdivision, and condominium plats, filed with the circuit court. The plats are arranged according to plat number and book and page references. Most book citations consist of numbers, beginning with 1 and dating from 1889. Four are cited with single letters: Books A and B contain plats prior to 1922, Book C retracings of damaged plats, and Book D Tecumseh Townhouses and Hotel-Apartment. Volumes marked with E and numbers, beginning with 1, refer to condominium plats. The series includes both original documents and copies made in accordance with laws passed in 1922, 1924, and 1957. The only records actually bound in books are those in volumes A-D and 1-29, encompassing plats prefaced with letters A, B, C, or D and those numbered 1-1475. All others are now housed flat in drawers or on shelves at the Archives. This series includes a miscellaneous collection of plats, MdHR 50,333-1/38, filed for a variety of purposes, mostly recordation in land records and exhibits in equity cases, spanning the years 1863-1931. The records were originally bound into a book, but now are arranged separately in folders. Most plats are referenced with the letter A and a number that are different from the Volume A listed above. Because of authentication problems associated with the existence of multiple and perhaps inexact copies, most plats in this series C2081 will be scanned and made available for reference and research even though some will be duplicates of the ones found in series S1235. Plats 1-5742, dated 1922-1988, are also found on microfilm in series CM1403. Copies of some plats in series C2081 may be found also in (Plats, Cabinet File) in series C2259.
