Record of proceedings of commissioners appointed by the court to perpetuate or restore land boundaries. Documents usually consist of petitions, court orders, oaths of commissioners, depositions, commission reports, and surveys and plats. The Archives will develop an electronic finding aid from (Plat References, SO, Index) in series S1568, supplemented by the records themselves. Land commissions after 1721, including proceedings to divide or sell inherited land that date from the early 1790s, were recorded in (Judicial Record) in series C1774 and C1775 and (Land Records) in series C1778 and C1779. The plats in these records can be located within (Plats from Judicials) in series C2413 and C2414 and (Plats from Land Records) in series C2409 and C2410.
