PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY
BOARD OF COUNTY ROAD COMMISSIONERS
(Proceedings)
1900-1933
C1281
Series Description
Record of meetings of the board of county road commissioners and
after 1906 the board of county commissioners sitting as the board
of county road commissioners. The board of county road
commissioners, charged with handling all matters concerning roads
and bridges in the county outside of incorporated towns, was
created in 1900 (Ch. 346) as a body separate from the board of
county commissioners. The road board lasted only six years, and
in 1906 (Ch. 249) its duties and responsibilities were returned
to the board of county commissioners. It designated itself as the
board of county road commissioners whenever it met to consider
road and bridge matters.
The series consists of three volumes: 1900-1902, 1916-1927, and
1927-1933. Entries show meeting dates, members and staff present,
and business transacted. Transactions through 1925 included
appointments of road officials, receipts and disbursements of
funds, awards of construction contracts, examination reports,
maintenance and repair orders, actions on petitions, orders for
placement of utility poles, recommendations for state-aid and
state roads, and bridge specifications. Recorded proceedings
after 1925 were limited to meeting dates, members and staff
present, appointments of road officials, and orders to pay bills.
The earlier two books will be included in the plats project
because the records provide information about identifiable roads
and bridges. The third book will be excluded because the entries
are so meager.
