Series Description
Record of property appraisals for tax purposes. For 1861-1864, records include owner’s name; description and value of land and tenements; aggregate value of enslaved laborers; description and value of stock in trade, public securities, and stocks; and aggregate values of private securities, livestock, household furniture, plate, gold and silver watches, and other property. For 1865-1871, records include owner’s name; description and value of land and tenements; description and value of stock in trade, public securities, and stocks; and aggregate values of private securities, livestock, household furniture, plate, gold and silver watches, and other property. For 1874, the Huntington record includes owner’s name, square, number of each lot, number of lots in each square, aggregate number of lots, and valuation per lot. For 1876, records include owner’s name, description and value of land and improvements, and values of livestock, household furniture, farming utensils, and other property. For 1888-1896, records include owner’s name; description and value of land; description and value of stock in trade, public securities, and stocks; and aggregate values of private securities, livestock, household furniture, plate, gold and silver watches, and other property. For 1897, records include owner’s name; description and value of land and improvements; description and value of stocks; description and value of bonds and securities; description and value of machinery, business property, and stock in trade; description and value of livestock, vehicles, farming implements, household furniture, and jewelry; description and value of other taxable property; and description of exempt property. For 1898-1910, records include owner’s name; description and value of land and improvements; value of bonds and private securities; value of machinery, business property, and stock in trade; and value of livestock, farm implements, household furniture, and jewelry. For 1912-1917, records include owner’s name; description of property and improvements; valuation of real property, personal property, and total assessment; additions, subtractions, and net assessment for each year. Arranged alphabetically by name of owner within district; handwritten on printed forms (except 1876, handwritten only).
