Series Description
These materials document planning for performances at various seasonal festivals in Baltimore. They include typewritten theatrical scripts and outlines, musical manuscripts (for traditional songs), drawings and paintings of sets, costume designs and character inspiration, and one printed program for The Christmas Festival at Eastern High School, December 22, 1915, by the Children's Playground Association. Other represented festivals include the Fourth of July at Patterson Park and one labeled "Easterwood." Scripts such as "Simple Thanksgiving Pageant Suitable for School Use," not identified with a specific festival or date, are also included.
One manuscript play titled "The Forest of Surprise" is attributed to Doris E. Hortop, 3408 34th Place, Washington, D.C. The other materials are assumed also authored by Hortop. Doris and husband Oscar Hortop are listed as living at608 Radnor Ave in Baltimore in city directories. According to a letter published in the journal The Playground, vol. 17 no. 1, Hortop worked with the Baltimore Children's Playground Association.
