Series Description

Records regarding the week-long celebration held in October 1880 to honor the 150th anniversary of the founding of Baltimore. Edward Spencer, ed., An Account of the Municipal Celebration of the One Hundred and Fiftieth Anniversary of the Settlement of Baltimore October 11th-19th, 1880, With a Sketch of the History, and Summary of the Resources of the City (Baltimore: Mayor and City Council, 1881) is a full account of the celebration.

These records relate to the involvement of the municipal government in the celebration and include printed rules, circulars, invitations, programs, tickets, and parade routes; examples of official stationary; the October 11, 1880 issue of the Baltimore Sesquicentennial Record; the October 11, 1880 issue of the Sesquicentennial Journal; a manuscript survey of hotels and residences for accomodations including names, addresses, rate, potential accomodation capacities, and miscellaneous comments; manuscript list of persons who can accomodate clubs and bands; September 27, 1880 letter of Mayor Ferdinand Latrobe to John Thomas Scharf offering him a position on the governing municipal committee for the celebration; and a printed map of the city distributed by Phillips Brothers and Company (see oversize file).
