Notes: Photographs have often been pulled from departmental files, and in some cases are also still listed in those record groups. Many photographs formerly belonging to city departments were transferred to the Municipal Museum (Peale museum) and some subsequently to the Maryland Center for History and Culture. Only select photos have been digitized; look for the word "Links" among the entries below. See also our flickr site for selected images.

Series Description
Photographs, slides and contact sheets relating to various Baltimore City agencies that document work programs, neighborhoods, municipal activities and mayoral administrations.

  Details1955-1998Slides, contact sheets, and photographs relating to the Baltimore City Housing Authority, Department of Housing and Community Development, Department of Planning, and various mayoral administrations [legacy accession number: MSA SC 5501]. Transferred to Baltimore City Archives during the 1990s. Housing Authority images form the bulk of this collection. Some subjects include urban revitalization, public housing, job skills/training classes, Baltimore City Fairs (1970s) and Bolton Hill views from the 1950s. Numerous 35mm contact sheets from the Kurt Schmoke mayoral administration (low resolution; unsuitable for full-sized reproduction). A few photographs from the William Donald Schaefer administration are also included.
Material transferred to the Maryland State Archives in June 2003 as a deposit; transferred back to the Baltimore City Archives in April 2012.

  Details1972-1996Black and white and color photographic prints depicting streetscenes and road damage throughout Baltimore. Compiled by the Department of Transportation, TEC Division, Survey Section, the images are foldered by street name.  Department of Transportation photographs BMS26-3
  Details1972-1980Photographs and slides of the shore line and floodplain areas surrounding the Baltimore harbor. Some images depicting the flooding caused by Hurricane Agnes in 1972.   Details1959-1972Documentary photographs depicting the housing in the neighborhoods of Old Town, Upton, Reservoir Hill and Mount Royal-Fremont (Bolton Hill). The photos are arranged by block number.   Details1932-1936Negatives of interior views depicting Baltimore City Hospital and various city departments headquartered at the Municipal Building. City Hospital views, the most numerous, include nursing, lab, and kitchen staff. Several interiors of wards with patients are also featured. City Departments include the Bureaus of Water Supply, Plans and Surveys, Standards, Weights and Measurements, Buildings, Liens, and, Meat Inspection. The Office of City Comptroller (and possibly the City Collector) is also represented. All the staff portraits are unidentified.
